Gut Health

Optimise your gut health for your overall well-being

One of the best ways to look after your gut health is through eating a diet which is high in fibre. Eating 30g of fibre daily helps to avoid constipation and can even reduce your risk of bowel cancer
When it comes to eating a fibre-rich diet, variety is key. Try to get a mixture of fibre sources each day by regularly including the following foods in your daily diet:
  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Beans and pulses

Introduce prebiotics

Prebiotic foods should also feature regularly in your diet. Prebiotics are types of dietary fibre that help the friendly bacteria in your gut to flourish.
Examples of prebiotic foods include:
  • Beetroot
  • Onion
  • Garlic
  • Leeks
  • Oats
  • Flaxseeds

The RYH recipes for gut health includes all of these to ensure that your gut is getting the best support.
Your microbiome exerts a widespread effect on many areas of your health but what exactly does the microbiome do?

Look at your lifestyle to optimise gut health

It’s also important to remember to look at lifestyle when optimising your gut health. Both stress and fatigue can have a negative impact on the gut microbiota. Simple measures to improve stress levels include meditation, exercise and yoga.  You can improve your sleep hygiene by keeping to regular bedtimes, following a relaxing bedtime routine, avoiding using screens and using blackout blinds.
